Tim Burton, né le 25 août 1958 à Burbank en Californie, est un réalisateur, scénariste et producteur de cinéma américain. Après avoir poursuivi ses études à la California Institute of the Arts, il commence sa carrière chez Disney dans les années 1970, où il contribue à l’animation de dessins animés tels que Rox et Rouky. Bien que cette expérience ait été éprouvante pour lui, elle lui a permis de développer ses compétences artistiques et de se lancer dans la réalisation de courts métrages. En 1982, il crée Vincent, un court-métrage animé inspiré d’un de ses poèmes, qui remporte des prix au Festival de Chicago et d’Annecy, lui assurant ainsi un budget de 160 000 dollars pour produire Hansel et Gretel pour la Disney Channel.

Tim Burton se fait connaître du grand public avec son premier long métrage, Pee Wee Big Adventure, en 1985, suivi de la comédie fantastico-macabre Beetlejuice en 1988, marquant le début d'une collaboration fructueuse avec l’acteur Johnny Depp. Ensemble, ils créent des films tels que Edward aux mains d'argent, Sleepy Hollow, Charlie et la chocolaterie et Sweeney Todd : Le Diabolique Barbier de Fleet Street. Burton est également reconnu pour ses films d’animation, comme L'Étrange Noël de monsieur Jack et Frankenweenie. Ses œuvres, souvent teintées de fantastique et de macabre, témoignent de son génie créatif et ont captivé le public grâce à leur univers unique et visuellement riche.
